We are delighted to share some incredible news with our community: our organization’s member, Will Purdy, has been nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Short Film at the upcoming Texas Independent Film Awards. His nomination recognizes his standout performance in Ripple Cut, a feature short written and directed by Emily Giuffre and produced in collaboration with our organization.
At its heart, Ripple Cut follows the story of Lori played by Giuffre, a struggling millennial who suddenly finds herself in way over her head as the new chief editor of a major marketing company. Under immense pressure to succeed in her new role, Lori makes an unexpected choice: she enlists the help of Derek played by Purdy, a talented, neurodivergent man who originally applied for the position but didn’t get the job. What begins as a pragmatic decision evolves into a partnership filled with honesty, tension, and growth. Together, Lori and Derek navigate challenges that force them to confront assumptions about success, capability, and inclusion in the workplace.
The film not only delivers an engaging and relevant story but also underscores the importance of creating opportunities for neurodivergent experiences and perspectives in film. Emily Giuffre’s vision as writer and director shines through in the way she balances humor, heart, and a genuine look at neurodivergent challenges in modern work culture.
At the center of it all is Will Purdy’s performance as Derek. His portrayal has been recognized for its authenticity, depth, and humanity. Purdy brings Derek to life in a way that captures both his vulnerabilities and his strengths, allowing audiences to connect deeply with the character. His nomination for Best Lead Actor is not only a recognition of individual talent but also a celebration of authentic storytelling that resonates with audiences far beyond the screen.
The Texas Independent Film Awards, taking place on September 6th in Arlington, Texas, will gather filmmakers and storytellers from across the state to honor outstanding achievements in independent cinema. To see Ripple Cut recognized in this arena is a proud moment for everyone involved in the project and for our organization, which has supported its development and production.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Will Purdy for his well-deserved nomination, and to Emily Giuffre for her creative leadership in bringing this story to life. Ripple Cut is a testament to the power of collaboration, perseverance, and the value of amplifying underrepresented voices in film.
Please join us in celebrating this exciting milestone and in cheering on Ripple Cut and Will Purdy at the Texas Independent Film Awards!
